The Father’s Family

Wednesday, Dec. 31

Eph. 3:14-15 is a very interesting passage. “For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and earth derives its name.” Paul obviously knew Greek. The Greek word for family (pater) derives from the word father (patria). So whenever we use the word “family” the implication is that God is our father. We belong to Him. This has two applications. Since we are His creation, He is our Father. All people of all time are in this category. But sin brought a change. We rejected our Father. Christ bought us back with His payment of our sin debt and gave us the option of being brought back into God’s family. Receiving this gift restores us to God’s family. This is the second application. Being re-born means we get a new start. “For this reason I kneel before the Father.”
