Flowing In and Flowing Out

Tuesday, August 29

“Before God’s love can flow out of you, his love has to flow into you.”  It’s real easy to try to obey Scriptural admonitions to love one another, to love our enemies, and to reach out in love to unbelievers.  The desire is there, and I’m not against that, but we tend to default to human effort as we try to obey the Word.  It just won’t happen without being connected to the source of life, Jesus himself.  Jesus’ analogy of the grape vine in John 15 makes it clear that only as we remain in fellowship with him, can we bear fruit.  We still need the effort, but tapping in to God’s power is a must.  Anything that cuts off the incoming flow of love will cut off our love to others.
